When hand-cutting joinery, precise joints like tenons don't always fit quite right on the first pass. A shoulder plane is often the preferred solution. This tool is a narrow woodworking plane where, unlike a block plane, the blade extends across the entire sole so that you can trim right up into the corner of the tenon's cheek and shoulder. A shoulder plane can shave very thin bits (to a few thousands of an inch) off of ill-fitting tenons to achieve the perfect fit required for strong and lasting joints. Plane Details
The 3-in-1 label on this plane is appropriate because you can remove the long nose of the plane for it to function as a ''Chisel Plane.'' You can also install the alternate short nose, and it works as a ''Bullnose Plane.'' This plane was created as a replica of the classic English design ''Record No. 311'' by Edward Preston & Sons. With a machined cast-iron body and a sharp steel blade, this shoulder plane offers great value and functionally with a classic pedigree.
Another of our celebratory anniversary tools, this one comes with the Garrett Wade 45th Anniversary logo stamped on the side. Add it to your woodworking tool collection today!
